Trauma Centre to Be Set Up in Nirsa, All Health Centres to Be Upgraded as Wellness Hubs

Dhanbad, July 24, 2025: In a significant move to strengthen emergency and healthcare infrastructure in Dhanbad district, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Aditya Ranjan held a detailed meeting to initiate the process of establishing a dedicated trauma centre in Nirsa. The meeting focused on identifying suitable locations, available infrastructure, and necessary resources for the proposed facility.

A trauma centre is a specialised medical unit equipped to provide immediate and advanced care to patients suffering from severe injuries such as those caused by road accidents, falls, burns, or other critical emergencies. The proposed centre in Nirsa is expected to play a vital role in saving lives by reducing the time between injury and treatment, especially in a region where such specialised services are currently limited.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner also directed the health department to assess all existing healthcare facilities in the district with the aim of transforming them into Integrated Health and Wellness Centres. These upgraded centres will not only provide basic treatment but also offer preventive care, health education, AYUSH (traditional medicine) services, yoga, and regular check-ups.

The meeting also covered several developmental plans for Sadar Hospital. These include upgrading its solar power system, constructing parking facilities and waiting sheds, installing a new X-ray machine, and introducing cataract surgeries using phacoemulsification (phaco) technology.

In addition, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the health officials to submit a detailed report on the monthly performance of all doctors and healthcare staff posted at the hospital. Special attention was also given to strengthening community-level healthcare. Provisions were discussed for distributing gender-specific Ayushman health kits, offering incentives to ‘Sahiyas’ (community health workers), and providing training to ANMs and Sahiyas to enhance their service delivery skills.

The meeting was attended by Civil Surgeon Dr. Alok Vishwakarma, Sadar Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Prasad, DPM Neeraj Yadav, and other senior health department officials.

The planned trauma centre in Nirsa, along with the transformation of primary health centres into holistic wellness hubs, marks a major step towards accessible and quality healthcare for the people of Dhanbad district.
