As directed by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Mr. Aditya Ranjan, a one-day orientation workshop was organized today for all school principals, parents of children with disabilities, and educational enthusiasts in the district to integrate children with disabilities into the mainstream of education.
In this context, an orientation workshop for teachers from Govindpur and Jharia blocks was held in the auditorium of the Block Resource Center, Govindpur (Government Basic School, Govindpur) and the auditorium of Jharia Academy High School, Jharia.
The instructors, Mrs. Rupa Chakraborty, Resource Teacher, Govindpur, and Mohammad Mustafa Ansari, Physiotherapist, Govindpur, primarily discussed the various categories of disabilities defined under the RPwD Act 2016. Various techniques for providing children with disabilities based on their disabilities were also discussed, so that such children can remain in the mainstream of education by providing them with home-based training both in schools and at home.
Addressing the orientation workshop, District Inclusive Education Training Incharge Mr. Ashok Kumar Pandey said that schools should survey all children living in their catchment areas and identify children with disabilities. Submit this list to the block resource centers to ensure their participation in departmental programs. Assistive devices and materials can be provided as needed. He also urged them to ensure 100% enrollment in schools.
He also said that children who are unable to attend school without assistance should be provided with escort allowance, transport allowance, and reader allowance to ensure their participation in departmental programs.
He also urged parents of children with disabilities to send them to the nearest Pragya Kendra to obtain Unique Disability Identification Cards and obtain medical certificates for their children.
In Jharia block, Mr. Akhlaq Ahmed, Resource Teacher, and Mr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Physiotherapist, oriented all school principals and parents of children with disabilities.
