Ranchi: Jharkhand is on track to establish a second Sainik School in the state, as Chief Secretary Smt. Alka Tiwari directed the School Education Department to initiate the process. Chairing a high-level meeting on Friday regarding proposals and issues related to Sainik School Tilaiya, the Chief Secretary emphasized the growing need for an additional military school in the state, noting that other Indian states already operate two such institutions. Sainik School Tilaiya currently accommodates the highest number of students—875—among all Sainik Schools across the country.
Assuring full support for the development of Tilaiya, she confirmed that no compromise will be made in fulfilling the school’s basic infrastructure needs. A new ₹9.49 crore water supply project has been approved and will soon be implemented. Instructions were given to draft a proposal for setting up a Sewage Treatment Plant and to the Building Construction Department for maintaining staff quarters on campus.
A proposal to cover pensions, family pensions, and other benefits for school employees under state support was also discussed, with an estimated cost of ₹7 crore. The Chief Secretary asked the education department to review models from other states before moving forward on this front. To ease logistical challenges, it was also decided that annual health check-ups for students will now take place in Koderma itself, instead of Hazaribagh.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary of Drinking Water & Sanitation Mr. Mastram Meena, School Education Secretary Mr. Umashankar Singh, and officials from other departments along with representatives of Sainik School Tilaiya.
