The 25% tariff imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Indian exports has officially come into effect today, making several Indian products more expensive in the American market. This move is expected to impact India’s export sector significantly.
President Trump had earlier described the Indian economy as “dead”, drawing widespread reactions. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed agreement with Trump’s remarks, stating that the Indian economy is indeed struggling under the current regime.
In response, Union Minister Piyush Goyal dismissed the criticism, asserting that “the world sees a bright future in India.” He emphasized that despite global challenges, India remains a promising destination for trade and investment.
The development marks a new point of tension in Indo-U.S. trade relations, with potential consequences for diplomatic and economic engagement between the two
nations.
