As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on August 2, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a host of development projects worth around ₹2200 crore. His visit aims at accelerating the holistic development of the city across infrastructure, healthcare, education, tourism, urban renewal, and cultural heritage.

Infrastructure & Connectivity:
PM will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for major road works including the widening of Varanasi–Bhadohi and Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar roads, as well as new railway overbridges at Hardattpur and other key junctions. -
Power Infrastructure:
Foundation stones will be laid for the Smart Distribution Project and underground electric infrastructure, worth over ₹880 crore. -
Tourism & Culture:
PM will inaugurate redeveloped riverfront ghats, beautified ponds, and restored temples. He’ll also launch projects at Kalika Dham, Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple, and Munshi Premchand’s ancestral home. -
Urban Development:
Projects include the Urban Miyawaki Forest in Kanchanpur and redevelopment of Shaheed Udyan and 21 other parks. -
Water Conservation & Drinking Water:
Restoration works at historic kunds like Ramkund, Mandakini, and Shankuldhara; 47 rural drinking water schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission will also be inaugurated. -
Education:
53 upgraded school buildings to be inaugurated, alongside the launch of new libraries and rejuvenated high schools. -
Healthcare:
Robotic surgery and CT scan facilities to be inaugurated at major cancer hospitals. A new Homoeopathic College and Dog Care Centre also to be launched. -
Sports & Security:
PM will inaugurate a synthetic hockey turf at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium and new PAC barracks for law enforcement. -
Farmer Welfare:
PM will release the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN, transferring over ₹20,500 crore to 9.7 crore farmers. Total scheme disbursement will cross ₹3.90 lakh crore. -
Youth & Talent Promotion:
A digital registration portal for the Kashi Sansad Pratiyogita (competitions like painting, sketching, quiz, sports) will be inaugurated. -
Support for Divyangjan:
Over 7,400 assistive aids will be distributed to elderly and differently-abled citizens.
PM Modi will also address a large public gathering during the event. This visit is expected to further transform the spiritual city of Varanasi into a model of modern infrastructure, cultural pride, and inclusive growth.
