Relief After 7 Years — Supreme Court Grants Conditional Bail to Former Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh

Dhanbad: Former Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh has been granted conditional bail by the Supreme Court after spending nearly seven years in jail. Singh had been in custody since April 11, 2017, in connection with the high-profile murder case of former Dhanbad Deputy Mayor Neeraj Singh, facing charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The case has been one of the most talked-about legal and political matters in Jharkhand for years.

Neeraj Singh was shot dead in 2017, sparking political tension and widespread outrage across the state. Investigators alleged Sanjeev Singh’s involvement in the killing, leading to his arrest the same year. Since then, Singh had been seeking bail but was repeatedly denied relief by the Jharkhand High Court, with the most recent rejection coming on October 28, 2024. Following this, he moved the Supreme Court with a special petition.

After prolonged arguments from both sides, the Supreme Court decided to grant him conditional bail. While the detailed terms of the bail have not yet been made public, sources indicate that he will be released under strict guidelines.

Reacting to the verdict, his wife and current Jharia MLA, Ragini Singh, called it “a victory of truth,” claiming that her husband was falsely implicated in his cousin’s murder due to political conspiracy. She expressed her unwavering faith in India’s judicial system and in God, stating that justice has now prevailed.

The Supreme Court’s decision has created ripples in the political circles of Jharia and Dhanbad. Political observers suggest that this development could have a significant impact on upcoming electoral equations. Celebrations erupted among Singh’s supporters, with reports of fireworks and sweet distribution across the region. Meanwhile, the case continues to draw public attention, with hashtags like #SanjeevSingh, #SupremeCourt, and #Jharia trending on social media.

While some co-accused in the case are already out on bail granted by the High Court or Supreme Court, the spotlight remains firmly on Sanjeev Singh as he prepares to step out of prison after seven long years, marking a dramatic turn in this politically sensitive case.
