A major train accident occurred near Chandil in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Saturday, severely disrupting rail services in the region. According to reports, more than 20 wagons of a freight train derailed before colliding head-on with another freight train approaching from the opposite direction. The impact caused several wagons of the second train to derail as well, leaving twisted metal and scattered cargo along the tracks.
The incident brought operations on the South Eastern Railway’s Chandil–Tatanagar section to a complete standstill, forcing multiple train cancellations and delays. Passengers were stranded at various stations as railway officials rushed to the scene.
Rescue and repair teams are working around the clock to clear the debris and restore the tracks. An official inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of the mishap, while authorities are focusing on swift restoration to resume train movement in the affected sector.
