Dhanbad, August 18: Residents of Jharia faced a sudden blackout on Sunday afternoon around 1:30 PM after a major technical fault hit the DVC Putki–Jamadoba 33 KV power line.
The unexpected power cut not only left thousands of homes in complete darkness but also triggered a severe water crisis. With the Jamadoba water treatment plant unable to function, water supply across several localities came to a standstill, leaving families struggling for drinking water in the sweltering heat.
Locals expressed anger at the recurring power issues and demanded immediate action from the electricity department. “Every few weeks, we face blackouts like this. Now even water has stopped – how are we supposed to survive?” said a resident.
Engineers from the power department confirmed that repair teams had been deployed on site and assured that restoration work was underway. They expressed hope that both electricity and water supply would be normalized by late evening.
This incident has once again exposed the fragile state of Jharia’s power infrastructure, raising questions about long-term reliability and crisis management.
