Varanasi, August 2025 – Indian Railways has marked a historic first with the successful commissioning of the country’s first 70-metre removable solar panel system at Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), Varanasi.
The innovative system, comprising 28 solar panels with a total capacity of 15 KWp, has been installed between railway tracks. Designed to be completely removable, the panels can be easily detached whenever track maintenance is required—making it a first-of-its-kind solution in India.
