Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a comprehensive bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. The discussions covered a wide spectrum of areas, reaffirming the deep-rooted partnership between India and Russia.
PM Modi described the meeting as “excellent,” noting that both leaders explored ways to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, fertilisers, space, security, and culture. The talks highlighted the shared intent to strengthen economic and strategic engagement, ensuring mutual benefit for both nations.
Significantly, the leaders also exchanged views on pressing regional and global developments. The conflict in Ukraine featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent position in favour of a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
The India–Russia relationship, known as a “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,” was underlined as a key pillar of regional and global stability. Both leaders expressed confidence that their partnership will continue to play a crucial role in addressing common challenges and fostering a more balanced multipolar world order.
This meeting on the SCO sidelines further consolidates the long-standing ties between New Delhi and Moscow, which continue to expand despite global shifts and evolving geopolitical dynamics.
