Tianjin, August 31 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, marking another step in efforts to strengthen India–China relations.
During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the positive momentum in bilateral ties since their last engagement in Kazan. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation while ensuring that the relationship continues to be guided by the principles of mutual respect, mutual interest, and mutual sensitivity.
Prime Minister Modi and President Xi emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas, which both sides acknowledged as essential for the overall progress of bilateral relations. The leaders also explored opportunities for collaboration under regional and global frameworks, including within the SCO.
India and China, as two of Asia’s largest economies and influential players in global affairs, share a complex but vital relationship. The dialogue in Tianjin is seen as a reaffirmation of both nations’ commitment to stability, cooperation, and constructive engagement, even as broader geopolitical challenges continue.
The meeting highlighted the determination of New Delhi and Beijing to keep communication channels open, manage differences responsibly, and build on areas of convergence for the benefit of their peoples and the wider region.
