New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu’s mention of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act during her address to the joint sitting of Parliament on Wednesday triggered strong protests from opposition parties, disrupting proceedings in both Houses.
In her address, the President said the proposed law would guarantee 125 days of employment, curb corruption and leakages, and give a fresh boost to rural development. While treasury bench members welcomed the announcement with loud desk-thumping, opposition MPs raised slogans demanding an immediate rollback of the Act, accusing the government of pushing controversial legislation without adequate consultation.
The opposition alleged that the scheme could dilute existing rural employment safeguards and demanded greater clarity on its implementation and funding. Several members stood up in protest, leading to brief interruptions during the President’s speech.
Political observers said the episode signals an intense parliamentary battle ahead over the VB-G RAM G Act, with the government projecting it as a transformative rural employment reform and the opposition framing it as flawed and exclusionary.
