New Delhi: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, speaking at a banquet hosted in her honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan, said that India’s growing global influence in trade, security, and international relations has placed it at the forefront of world politics — a development Europe strongly welcomes.
Highlighting the strategic importance of India-EU cooperation, she said, “Our scale gives us global influence. Just imagine what we can achieve if we combine Europe’s and India’s resources. This is precisely why we are here today. It is a decisive moment in our partnership with our free trade agreement.”
Her remarks underscored the strengthening momentum in India-European Union relations, particularly in areas such as trade, technology, climate action, security cooperation, and global governance. The proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was described as a key pillar in unlocking economic opportunities for both sides.
Diplomatic observers said the banquet address reflects growing trust and convergence between New Delhi and Brussels, marking a significant step toward a deeper strategic and economic partnership in an increasingly multipolar world.
