Maratha Military Forts of India Get UNESCO World Heritage Status
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed immense pride over the inclusion of the "Maratha Military Landscapes of India" in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This prestigious recognition includes 12 historic forts, with 11 in Maharashtra and 1 in Tamil Nadu.
These forts represent the military brilliance, architectural heritage, and strategic planning of the Maratha Empire from the 17th to 19th centuries. PM Modi recalled his 2014 visit to Raigad Fort and encouraged citizens to explore these sites to learn about India's rich history.
UNESCO's recognition marks India’s 44th World Heritage Site, reinforcing the nation's global cultural presence.
📍Forts included: Raigad, Shivneri, Lohagad, Pratapgad, Rajgad, Salher, Torna, Suvarnadurg, Sindhudurg, Panhala, Vijaydurg (Maharashtra) and Gingee (Tamil Nadu).
