MLA Provides ₹1 Lakh Each to Mothers of Two Migrant Workers Killed by Train in Chhattisgarh
In a compassionate gesture, Tundi MLA Shri Mathura Prasad Mahato handed over ₹1 lakh cheques to Radhika Devi and Punki Devi, the mothers of Krishna Rai and Dilu Rai, two migrant workers from Brahmadih village, Laxmanpur Panchayat, who tragically died after being hit by a train in Chhattisgarh.
The MLA expressed condolences and highlighted that on 10 May 2025, twelve workers had been sent to work at Dinosaur Company in Chhattisgarh through a contractor named Harshit Singh from Varanasi. They were promised a daily wage of ₹600 but were later paid only ₹400. When they protested, the company supervisor allegedly instigated local goons to assault and chase them. In fear, Krishna and Dilu fled towards a railway track, where they were fatally hit by a train. Two others, Ajay Rai and Vikas Hembram, were seriously injured.
Following this, on 11 June 2025, under instructions from Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan, financial aid of ₹50,000 each was provided to the families for immediate repatriation of the bodies under the Inter-State Migrant Worker Survey and Rehabilitation Scheme.
Labour Superintendent Shri Ranjit Kumar confirmed that both mothers have now been registered under the Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (BOCW), entitling them to insurance coverage and multiple welfare schemes.
He also appealed to all migrant workers to register on the Shramadhan Portal https://shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in to ensure they receive maximum benefits in case of accidents or emergencies.
Present during the event were the MLA's representatives Shri Madan Mahato, Shri Manoj Mahato, Shri Vikas Mahato, Shri Anand Mahato, Shri Arjun Mahato, and Labour Office officials Shri Mannu Kumar Sinha, Shri Pramod Prasad, and Shri Indrajeet Kumar, among others.
